Easter Lilies
Our Toronto office Easter Liliese Easter Lilies are indoor plants grown for their symbolic nature of purity. They are referred to as Easter plants because of their white colour, which is always the theme colour worn by the clergy in the Roman Catholic during Easter holiday celebrations.
They symbolize a new birth or new life because of Jesus' resurrection.
Its botanical name is Lilium longiforum.
How does one grow Easter Lilies?
- First, these plants prefer cool soils. One thing to put into consideration is the type of media you use. Do not use media that has high water retention capacity.
- Secondly, the choice of the porting container matters a lot. If your container has holes at the bottom, water the plant frequently. If otherwise, ensure you water infrequently.
- Thirdly, you can add fertilizer (mulch) around the plant roots as desired.
- Lastly, do not feed the plants with excess water. Easter lilies are damaged a lot by over watering than under watering. Water them when the soil becomes completely dry.
How are Easter lilies maintained?
Care tips
Light
They can survive well in areas with both full and partial supply of sunlight.
Media
Use a media that is rich in nutrients and has good drainage.
Irrigation
Water supply must be frequent since Easter Lilies should always remain moist. Once the soil starts drying up, water the plant so as it does not dry up.
Fertilizer application
Application of fertilizer is only done to the bulbs. Ensure the fertilizer does not come into direct contact with the bulbs. A ratio of 10:10:10 of Nitrogen: Phosphorus: Potassium (N:P: K) is the best.
Pruning
Remove the yellow flowers to stop the anthers from releasing pollen on the white flowers since this pollen leaves stains on the white flowers or even clothes.
